For Part 1, I started with the drawing of McKeldin Library, using line weights and the edge of my sketchbook to guide my hand into straight lines. Once I did that, I scanned it and used it as an underlay in Illustrator to create the other 4 diagrams. I did the tartan grid first, focusing on using different line types and weights to show different information. We were allowed to choose the other 3 diagrams. I chose hierarchy because I thought it would be an interesting challenge; I liked symmetry because it was one of the things that stood out to me when I was drawing the building; and geometry was something that we talked a lot about in class, so I wanted to apply that to this assignment. I showed the hierarchy of the pitched roofs in that diagram. In geometry, I used the red color to distinguish between the rectangles/squares and the triangles. Overall, I got generally good feedback on this part. My hierarchy diagram was not the most self-explanatory and I should have used a different method to distinguish between the shapes in geometry.
